H-BP Set Report Preview

E-mail Print PDF

On Monday, January 28, 2008, I had the immense privilege of visiting the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie set over at the Leavesden Film Studios, Hertfordshire, England; while I cannot release the entire report of the visit just yet, I am able to give you a little teaser that will hopefully whet your appetite for the movie even more.

Upon arrival we were taken into one of the main hangars and to a tent that had been set up for the interviews that would be taking place throughout the day. The entrance to the tent had been marked in true Harry Potter style, since two replica flame holders, like the ones seen in the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie, stood as guards to a remarkable area that otherwise on the outside looked like a normal, dull, tent.

The inside of the tent had been given a Harry Potter makeover, which made the whole tent look more like a treasure trove. Red tables, golden chairs and green drapes were scattered over the entire area – homage to the scene of Slughorn's party perhaps? You will just have to wait and see for the answer to this question!

On the back wall of the tent, as well as on the left-hand side and right-hand side, were a variety of images taken from the movie. The most prominent images included one of Draco Malfoy in the Room of Requirement all dressed in black. When asked why Draco was all dressed in black, the Warner Bros. staff member describing the images to us stated that it was because it heralded a new era for Draco, one where he moves from childhood to adulthood and the change of clothing to a black blazer, black trousers and black shirt heralded this.

All in all, the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie is set to be a big hit, since Warner Bros. has not only kept close to the storyline, but has created some stunningly-beautiful scenes using CGI, such as those dealing with the cave. Let's all just hope that next July comes as soon as possible!
