Beedle the Bard NYC Unveiling; Arthur Levine Interview

E-mail Print PDF

To mark the release of J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard tomorrow, December 4th, Scholastic's Harry Potter editor Arthur Levine today placed his original Beedle the Bard book to be on display for one month, beginning tomorrow and ending on January 4th, at the New York Public Library's Humanities and Social Sciences Library located at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street.

TheDailySnitcher was at the unveiling and we have the following quotes from Arthur Levine! Photos can be seen here!

About his favorite tale from the book, The Fountain of Fair Fortune:

"It has that quality of being - feeling like it's existed forever" and has "strong, interesting female characters" and that it "still feels original and surprising; it's hard to be a folktale and be original."

Also, J.K. Rowling did give him a tip to let him know that the book would be coming, which is marked 5/7.

She called to tell me that i should be on the lookout for this. It was a little bit of a surprise how it came; but she warned me in advance ... so that it wouldn't be someone else's surprise.

My feelings about Beedle are very personal. I remember the moment I opened the package and saw this beautiful object that Jo had sent. Something she'd made with her own hands and her own unique imagination. What could an editor treasure more from his author? Only the friendship the gift represents.

Additionally, the gemstone on the cover of his copy is that of a tourmaline, which is his son's birthstone.

Also of note is that after the display of his book at the New York library ends next month, Arthur would like to donate his book to his alma mater, Brown University, and that Scholastic's Barry Cunningham received an original copy as welll and lent it to the National Library of Scotland.

Scholastic is donating three copies of the book to each of 87 branches of the New York Public Library.

All proceeds from the book benefit the Children's High Level Group.

Daniel Radcliffe talks about new role in The Woman in Black

E-mail Print PDF

In a new interview, Daniel Radcliffe talked about why he chose to play solicitor Arthur Kipps in the upcoming adaptation of the supernatural drama, The Woman in Black. Dan says that the character will be a big change from Harry Potter.

“Working is how I will best get through a very weird time,” Radcliffe said. “I know it’s the most constructive thing I can do because otherwise I’d be moping around and being a bit like, ‘Oh, I miss everyone ... ’ So I'm quite pleased to go on to the next thing and the next challenge.”

“It worries me, but the challenge is to look like a dad and a young father. If I get that right, that is something that immediately separates me from Harry,” Radcliffe said. “The script is so good and the characters are so clear, there is actually reduced pressure on me to be constantly ‘different,’ if you know what I mean; in other words, once people are into the story, they’ll be watching this really compelling movie and will stop — I hope — thinking about me.”
