The Wyrd Sisters & WB reach settlement

Toronto Sun reports that the Canadian band, The Wyrd Sisters, and Warner Bros. have reached a settlement in the case concerning the band's attempt to stop the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film from being released in Canada because the band members were worried that the use of the band name, The Weird Sisters, in the film would hurt their reputation. The name, The Weird Sisters, was actually not mentioned in the fourth film. The case started in mid-2005.

A -million lawsuit launched by The Wyrd Sisters, a little-known Winnipeg folk group, has been settled out of court, representatives for both sides confirmed to The Canadian Press. However, the settlement is subject to a confidentiality clause that prevents either side from revealing what, if any, money has changed hands.
...

Kim Baryluk, the group’s founder and only consistent member, sued for million, and asked an Ontario court to block the release of the movie across Canada. She also asked the judge to force Warner Bros. to destroy any DVD, compact disc, video game and other paraphernalia that contained references to the music group.

Warner Bros. fought back, saying it had removed any reference to the band’s name from the movie, and had offered Baryluk ,000 for use of the name.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Colin Campbell rejected Baryluk’s request to block the movie, and ordered her to pay Warner Bros. 0,000 for the company’s legal costs. The decision set off years of appeals, as well as court battles between Baryluk’s former lawyer, Campbell and other judges, whom the lawyer accused of acting inappropriately. Those accusations were later deemed baseless, and Baryluk has since changed lawyers.
