As you have probably heard already, Warner Brothers in conjunction with TT games is releasing a new Lego game for 'Harry Potter'. I was given the opportunity recently to play the game firsthand and might I say it was a blast.
From a personal standpoint I am not a gamer in any way. I'm a Tetris kind of girl and that's really the extent of it. But I have to say this game even caught my interest. I tried it on the XBOX 360 and the Nintendo Wii. On the XBOX I found the controls really easy to remember - a big plus in my book. The Wii on the otherhand was a little more complicated and there were multiple processes to go through to change the spell button options. Makes me worry about and quickness needed when you go up against the troll or even Voldemort at the end. Though maybe someone who plays more complicated games on the Wii more regularly would get the controls down better. I did also notice that the younger crowd playing the game caught onto it with a quickness.
The game starts out at Privet Dr. and progresses just like the books,as you would expect. The part I liked the most was the fact that the Lego versions of our beloved characters don't actually speak - they sort of grunt and make inaudible noises - but the facial expressions and little mannerisms completely give them life. It really conveyed the characters so well and I actually found myself laughing out loud at times.
This game was highly entertaining and held my interest so much that I stood there and played it for an hour, and also made it through level 2 in that time. But don't let that discourage you. With all the extra things to do, on top of just the storyline play, I could see this game taking months to really finish. When Producer Arthur Parsons was asked how long he figured play time to actually be, he couldn't give an estimate just because of the depth of the entire game.
Also a fun tidbit - not only do you get to play with over 100 different characters (think you can name them all?) but you can create and save your own characters at Madame Malkin's Robe Shop.
This is truly a game for fans whether you're a 'gamer' or not. I believe it is another wonderful addition to the Harry Potter world of interactivity - another great way to bring Harry and the rest of the characters home with you. Play the game - you will not be disappointed.
Also, the official site for the LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 video game has been updated with a new widget, Currency Collector game, and new photos that you can see here.
