Clash of the Titans (2010) Blu-ray Review

The Movie

The remake of Clash of the Titans is an epic adventure between the ancient Greek gods and mankind. In ancient Greece, more and more people are shunning the gods who created them, and Zeus (Liam Neeson) strikes up a deal with Hades (Ralph Fiennes) to turn man upon man, hoping that the result will make people go back to worshiping the gods. The plan is to force one kingdom to face destruction if they do not sacrifice their beautiful young princess to the horrifying beast, the Kraken.

To stop that from happening, the hero of the story Perseus (Sam Worthington), who is a demigod and son of Zeus but raised as a human man, leads a team to get the only thing that can stop the Kraken - the head of Medusa. Hades finds out about this, and to stop them he creates a monster named Calibos to kill Perseus.

The Picture

The video quality of the Blu-ray DVD is absolutely amazing, showcasing every intimate detail and action sequence in clear hi-definition. The intensity of color and sharpness of the images and scenes is superb, and shifts in light and color during the film are handled effortlessly.

The Sound

The quality of the sound is perfect. The sound effects are intense, loud, furious, and the movie opens with booming thunder. The scenes with Zeus and his anger are also impressive, and the whole DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 is filled with distant cries, cheering crowds, sword fights and much more. Especially notable is the scene with Medusa - the track makes hunting for Medusa very real, since Perseus can not look at  her otherwise he will of course be turned to stone.

The Extras

There are many fantastic extras packaged with the Blu-ray DVD, which are featured on Disc One in full HD.  "WB Maximum Movie Mode" (with Focus Points) is a wonderfully produced "making of" that makes excellent use of the new Bonus View technology. The movie minimizes to a small window, and is accompanied with video vignettes that go behind the scenes of the making of the movie. Ten Focus Points, which are more-in-depth, are a total of 35 minutes, with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

An eight-minute look at "Sam Worthington: An Action Hero for the Ages" is a tribute to the actor. Also included in the Blu-ray DVD is a rough alternate endin of the movie, where Perseus confronts his father, Zeus, on Mount Olympus. Disc Two contains the movie in standard definition and a digital copy.
