Review: Killer Heat by Brenda Novak

Killer Heat by Brenda Novak is the last book in the Department 6 Hired Guns trilogy. One of the best things about this series, though, is that you don’t have to start from the beginning because each installment is strong and entertaining enough to stand on its own. I highly recommend reading them all - you will thoroughly enjoy each one!
When the bodies of seven women are discovered in Skull Valley, Arizona, the Yavapai County Sheriff hires Jonah Young, who works for a private security company named Department 6, to help in solving the murders. The hitch? The investigation forces him to come face-to-face with an old flame, private investigator Francesca Moretti, whose heart was broken by Jonah ten years ago.
As luck would have it, though, the woman Francesca has been hired to find is April Bonner, who never made it back home after meeting a man she met on an internet dating site. The lead that Francesca has been following to find April ends with the discovery that April has been murdered in the exact same way as the seven women in Skull Valley – which means that Francesca has absolutely no choice but to work with Johan on this investigation.
And even though a suspect is narrowed down, doubts still hang in the air, and the police won’t listen to Francesca’s theory about who she thinks is really responsible for the murders. Except for Jonah. He is the only one who believes her suspicions are worth the time and effort of looking into, which means that Francesca is forced to rely on him for protection. Francesca and Jonah must now come to terms with their past, but if they don’t also figure out who the real criminal is, then they won’t have a future - and definitely not a future together.
Killer Heat is an amazingly brilliant book. The characters are easy to fall in love with, the pacing is exceptional and smooth and the plot is intriguing and compelling, making this book impossible to put down. Killer Heat will grab your attention right away with all of its twists and turns, and you will still be thinking about the book long after you’ve finished reading it. I loved Killer Heat. It is definitely a book that will appeal to a wide range of readers who are looking for a fun, well-written, fast-paced romantic suspense novel.
