Harry Potter Franchise To Be Released In IMAX Theatres For Exclusive One-Week Engagement Beginning Oct. 13

From Warner Bros. --

In anticipation of the global IMAX release of Warner Bros. Pictures' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them beginning the weekend of November 18, IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that all eight Harry Potter films will screen for the first time in domestic IMAX locations for an exclusive one-week engagement beginning October 13. The event, which will build on the growing excitement surrounding J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World franchise, marks the first time both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released in IMAX® theatres.

Kicking off the weeklong Harry Potter engagement will be a global fan event on Oct. 13 celebrating the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Fans attending the event at select IMAX theatres in the U.S. and internationally will be treated to a never-before-seen reel from the much-anticipated new film, as well as in-person appearances by talent from the film at two IMAX locations in London and Los Angeles, a live Q&A and more.

The Harry Potter engagement will screen in IMAX® 2D and also feature additional content from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, including the exclusive reel from the fan event and specially recorded greetings from star Eddie Redmayne and other talent.

To date, the Harry Potter franchise—which collectively, among the last six films, has grossed approximately $216 million in IMAX theatres worldwide—stands as one of the most successful film series ever released in IMAX. In addition to the first two films in the franchise (mentioned above), the remaining installments include (in order): Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Parts 1 & 2—all of which received an IMAX release.

"Harry Potter is one of the most beloved film franchises of all time and is incredibly important to the history of IMAX. Therefore, being able to offer each installment—especially the initial two for the very first time in IMAX—makes this a truly magical event for fans," said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp.

Tickets will be available by means of four separate admission packages: Single Ticket; Day Access (admittance to three or more shows in a single day); Four-Show Access (admittance to four shows any time, any day); and Festival Access (unlimited admittance throughout the event). Packages offered and pricing may vary by theatre.

Event tickets are on sale online and at participating IMAX theatres. Visit IMAX.com/HarryPotter for additional event details, all movie showtimes, and to purchase tickets.

The IMAX release of each film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Discover Your Patronus in Pottermore’s New Online Experience

From Pottermore and Warner Bros. --

One of the most famous magical elements in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World becomes accessible to all for the first time today, as Pottermore launches the official Patronus experience. Those taking part in the online experience will make a series of choices, based on a set of cryptic prompts written by J.K. Rowling, and discover which animal is their Patronus – a magical protector from harm or evil.

A spell first introduced in the third Harry Potter book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which became intrinsic to the series, the Patronus Charm is a defensive spell which produces an ethereal guardian or protector, taking the form of an animal. Harry’s Patronus is a stag, whilst Hermione’s is an otter. A pure, protective magical concentration of happiness and hope, the Patronus is the only spell effective against Dementors, terrifying creatures which prey on human happiness. The Patronus has remained an important feature in the latest developments in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

Pottermore’s Patronus experience is set in a 3D animated environment that suggests danger and features originally-scored music and a responsive soundscape. By summoning a single happy memory and then responding to a series of short, time-sensitive multiple-choice options on screen, users are able to discover and ultimately be presented with their Patronus – which has been chosen for them using J.K. Rowling’s own secret algorithm. Patronuses are drawn from animals both familiar and magical, although magical beasts are amongst the rarest Patronuses. The user’s Patronus then becomes a part of his or her profile on pottermore.com.

Susan L. Jurevics, CEO of Pottermore, said:

“We are so delighted to be bringing J.K. Rowling’s most famous spell magically to life on Pottermore, for everyone to enjoy and discover their authentic Patronus, for free. It’s been fantastic working with J.K. Rowling and our creative and development teams to realise her vision, using the latest technology to create this little piece of magic for our site.”

This is the only authentic Patronus experience, devised with detailed input and direction from J.K. Rowling. Registration for the site is required to gain access to the experience. The Patronus experience is accompanied by an original piece of writing by J.K. Rowling about the Patronus Charm, which has previously featured on Pottermore.com. In the months to come, further new information and features will be revealed about the spell and its outcomes on Pottermore, the authentic source for everything from the Wizarding World.

Prior to the exclusive screening benefitting Lumos USA, the film’s screenwriter and author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, will join Academy Award® winner Eddie Redmayne on stage at the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at 6:00 pm for a conversation. The remaining tickets for the family event (age recommendation 10 years+), which have been in high-demand, range from $50-$500. This exclusive event, in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures and publisher Scholastic Inc., will follow the film’s worldwide premiere, being held earlier that week in New York, and will precede the UK premiere in London the following week.  The film opens in theaters on November 18th 2016, and on November 18th, Scholastic will publish the original screenplay of the film in the United States and Canada.

The film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a new and original story by J.K. Rowling and marks her screenwriting debut.  In addition to Eddie Redmayne, the film also stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo and Colin Farrell.

Ticket revenues will support the WeAreLumosWorldwide campaign in the United States, UK and across the globe.  The campaign launched last weekend (17th September) with a Facebook Live global broadcast with J.K. Rowling, opening sales of limited edition “Be the Light” t-shirts, and a gala performance of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End.

Thanks to Lumos’ 100% Pledge, all funds raised by the event will go directly to Lumos’ Families Not Orphanages Fund. The Fund will help children in the countries where Lumos works to leave orphanages and return to a family life. No portion of any donations will go to administration, fundraising or overhead costs of the organization. Lumos is grateful to Warner Bros. and Scholastic for their support.

Over the past decade, Lumos has helped thousands of children – from infants to older children – return to family life in Central and Eastern Europe and more recently in Haiti. Now, in its second decade, Lumos is expanding its work in Latin America and the Caribbean, and other regions around the world with the aim to end institutionalization of children globally by 2050.
